Stay
of discovery of the Pertuis of Antioche
The
Charente-Maritime is a department where one paddle either blue or
green.
Blue means the Pertuis. The pertuis of Maumusson, the pertuis
Breton and the pertuis of Antioche form maritime entries where the
ocean calms down and advances among an archipelago of four
islands. The small island Madame, the most historical island of
Aix, the island of Ré, the white one, and the island of Oléron,
the luminous one.
The earth and the sea are like in a marriage in the estuaries
along the Charentais littoral. In a back and forth movement, with
the tide, the rivers accomodate this feeding sea down to their
deepest parts.
Green means the Sèvre Niortaise river just after the interlacings
of the Poitevin marsh, the Charente river with its tumultuous
historical past, the river Seudre, center of the oysters and the
Gironde the largest estuary in Europe protected by the lighthouse
of Cordouan.
